“When the student is ready,
the teacher will appear”
Buddhist Proverb
“A memory is what is left when something happens and does not completely unhappen.”
Edward de Bono
This website is dedicated to the memory of Edward de Bono ( 1933 – 2021) – the ‘lateral thinking’ man – a dear friend, an amazing mentor, a court jester extraordinaire, but more importantly, a man who dedicated his life to inspiring millions to seek and attain their mental freedom and emotional balance. I am grateful that Edward ‘happened’ in my lifetime.
20th June, 2021.
In late 1996, whilst watching a football match in the performance of my duties as a UEFA Match Delegate, I witnessed what I considered to be a thoughtless incident on the field of play which challenged my understanding of the reason why ‘talented footballers and athletes sometimes involved themselves in questionable behavior that often led to their suspension from the game to the detriment of both themselves and their clubs or countries. I challenged myself to ‘look into the matter and possibly find ways of how athletes could ‘insure’ themselves against these moments of ‘ bad thinking ‘ that in so many cases resulted in period suspensions from their sport.
At about the same time as this incident, I happened to come across an article in a local Maltese newspaper advertising the Third International Conference on Creative Thinking which was held in Malta in July 1997.
This conference was being organized by the Edward de Bono Institute of the University of Malta, and Edward de Bono was the keynote speaker for the event. I decided that it would be worth looking into, and with the assistance of Dr. Sandra Dingli, who was running the Conference, I managed to get myself a seat.
What I did not realize at the time, was that in pursuit of my quest for some possible answers to some simple questions regarding the ‘thinking behaviors and decision-taking skills’ of talented athletes, I was actually embarking on a journey that would change my life forever,
The scene was set. The student was ready.
The teacher then appeared……
And the rest, as they say, is history.

22nd June, 2021.
Edward de Bono passed peacefully away on the 9th June 2021 at the age of 88 years. Through this website, we will continue to promote his lifetime work through the sharing of articles, exercises, games, anecdotes, stories, and ‘lateral thinking puzzles intended to demystify the lateral thinking processes and support the theory that the use of the de Bono tools for creativity and thinking need to be carried forward in a world where humankind is facing unprecedented transformation, and where the need to teach our children to develop clear and constructive thinking patterns has never been greater.
